| We now have mangels for 2010! Large reddish roots 10 to 15 diameter are the perfect thing for feeding cattle. Grow as you would beets, but be warned, ours get mighty big! How about a mangel hurling contest this October? Grab the mangel by its tail (foliage), aim at the Norman (an isolated de-foliate mangel, its top just protruding above the soil level), swing to gather momentum, and let loose! The closest to the Norman wins.Tossing mangels is best enjoyed with hard cider. Pictured at right is an advertisement published by OSC in 1909. Celebrate a hundred years of mangels at OSC! |
