Unique looking spoon-shaped fruits with dark green and golden-yellow banding patterns with up to 5 bands at full maturity. Mature fruits average 10 cm (4.5") length. Grows much like squash and cucumbers. Direct sowing seeds into warm, well drained soil is best where the growing season is at least 100 days long. As seeds do not germinate well in cool soil, late sowing typically does better than early sowing. If you need to get a head start, plant seed indoors into peat pots. Leave pots in a warm, brightly illuminated place. As gourds resent transplanting, we recommend using plantable peat pots that can be directly planted into the garden without disturbing the roots. You may want to try growing the vines on a low trellis.
