This variety of Pincushion Flower is a member of the Teasel family. It has big, slightly irregular ball shaped flowers in a full range of colours. Blooms are carried on long stems, making them suitable for cut flower arrangements. At 30 cm (12″) in height, the plants are useful in borders and mass planting. Occasionally this variety will self sow. Scabiosa will attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators to your garden.
How to Grow
200 seed/gram. Sow seed directly outdoors for best results. Select a sunny site with well-drained soil. Barely cover seed with soil and keep moist through the 10-14 day germination period. Thin the seedlings to 30 cm (12″) apart when the plants are 5 cm (2″) tall.
