Nutritional Information

Leeks are a nutrient-rich vegetable with a mild flavour. They are an excellent source of Vitamin K and a good source of Vitamins A, C, and Folate. Leeks also provide beneficial minerals like manganese, iron, and potassium, in addition to dietary fibre and antioxidants.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

Leeks are a long-season plant, so start seeds indoors in February and early March. Sow the seeds 7 mm deep in a soilless medium and keep them at 20°C during germination and growth. Transplant the seedlings outside later in the spring when they are around 20 cm tall, spacing them 10-15 cm apart in rows 30-45 cm apart. Seed can also be sown directly into the garden from April through June. Germination occurs in 10-14 days.
