Description

Victoria Rhubarb Seeds (Aimers International) 2935. Open Pollinated. Variety originated in UK.

Approx. 80 seeds/pkt (85 seeds/gram)

Here is a rhubarb you can grow from seed! Tender greenish-red stalks to 35 cm (14”) long have a slight red wine flavour. Large growing, very productive variety. Perennial hardy to Zone 3. Plants are considered mature after 12-15 months.

How to Grow

After soaking seed in tepid water for several hours, sow direct in a sunny site in early to mid-May or preferably start seed inside 4-6 weeks early in plantable peat or paper pots filled with sterile growing medium. Seed typically germinates in 14-21 days.

Planting Depth: 6-12 mm (1/4-1/2″). Plant Spacing: 90 cm (36″). Row Spacing: 150 cm (60″).

COMMENTS: As an organic, well drained soil is essential for best growth, work in well-rotted manure or compost before planting. Do not harvest stems until the second year. In hot summer areas, some afternoon shade is beneficial. Flower and seed stalks should be removed as soon as they are noticed as they tend to weaken the plant. Do not consume rhubarb leaves as they are toxic.
