Nutritional Information

Romaine lettuce is a nutrient-dense powerhouse. It is an excellent source of Vitamins A and K, as well as a very good source of Vitamin C and Folate. This lettuce also provides dietary fibre and minerals such as iron, making it a highly nutritious and refreshing addition to your diet.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

  • Sowing: Sow as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring, then every two weeks thereafter to ensure a continuous supply. Sow about 3 mm deep in rows 45 cm apart.
  • Care: Lettuce is a sun-loving, cool-weather crop that grows best in organic, well-drained soil. Gradually thin seedlings to 15 cm apart. An even supply of moisture during the entire growth period is imperative for success.
  • Harvesting: Harvest by cutting the head off at the base just below the lower leaves. Once the lettuce bolts (starts to produce a rapidly growing flower stem), the leaves become bitter.
  • Germination: Germination occurs in 7-10 days.

Why Parris Island Lettuce Seeds belong in Your Garden

For a lettuce with proven excellence and a dependable flavour, Parris Island is an outstanding choice. Its ability to resist bolting and tip burn ensures a consistent and high-quality harvest, while its crisp, sweet leaves make it the perfect base for any salad. This variety sets the standard for romaine lettuce in the home garden.
