What you need to know to Plant & Grow
Vates Collard is a hardy plant that can be direct sown for a continuous supply of leaves.
Planting: Sow seeds directly outdoors in a sunny site 6-10 mm deep and 2.5 cm apart about 3 weeks before your last frost date. Space in rows about 60 cm apart. To get a jump on the season, seeds can be started indoors 6-8 weeks early, then hardened off and transplanted about 2 weeks before your last frost date. Germination occurs in 8-12 days.
Care: Thin sprouts to 30 cm apart in the garden. Start harvesting the outside leaves when plants are about 30 cm high, which encourages continued growth from the centre.
