Striking Bi-Coloured Blooms and Towering Garden Presence.

The Ice Queen Zinnia is a breathtaking addition to any sunny border or cutting garden. This variety features semi-double to double flowers with a unique, sophisticated bi-colour pattern: the inner half of each petal is a deep, vibrant rose, while the outer edges transition to a crisp white or pale pink. Reaching an impressive height of 120 cm, these fast-growing plants provide a dramatic vertical accent and a continuous supply of “frosted” blooms from mid-summer right through to the first autumn frost.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

Zinnias are heat-loving specialists that perform best when the soil is warm and the sun is bright.

  • Sow Outdoors: Direct sow in late May once the soil has warmed. Avoid planting too early, as cool, damp soil can lead to seed rot. Barely cover the seed with soil.

  • Sow Indoors (Optional): For earlier flowers, start in mid-March using peat pots or Jiffy-7s to avoid root disturbance. Sow 6 mm deep and maintain a temperature of 22°C.

  • Germination: Under ideal conditions, sprouts will appear in 5–10 days.

  • Growing On: Once germinated, grow at a cooler 15°C to develop sturdy stems before hardening off and transplanting in late May.

  • Spacing: Because this is a taller variety, thin or transplant seedlings to 35 cm apart to allow for proper airflow and support.

  • Care: Choose a sunny site with well-drained organic soil. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage constant new growth.

Why Ice Queen Zinnia Seeds belong in Your Garden

If you want a zinnia that offers more than just a single solid colour, the Ice Queen is a “must-have.” Its towering height makes it a perfect backdrop for shorter annuals, and its attractive bi-coloured petals make it a magnet for butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. As a cut flower, it is exceptionally long-lasting, bringing a cool, elegant “frosted” look to your indoor floral arrangements.
