What you need to know to Plant & Grow

Pumpkins are heat-loving crops that require plenty of space to spread their vigorous vines.

  • Sow Outdoors: Direct sow from late May through early June once the soil is thoroughly warmed. Plant 2.5 cm deep in “hills” spaced 2.4 m apart.

  • Sow Indoors (Optional): Start 3 weeks before the last frost. Because pumpkins have sensitive roots, use paper or fibre pots that can be planted directly into the garden to avoid transplant shock.

  • Germination: Typically occurs in 7–10 days.

  • Thinning: Plant 4–6 seeds per hill and thin to the 3 strongest plants to ensure enough room for fruit development.

  • Care: Provide Full Sun and deep, organic-rich soil. Work in plenty of compost before planting to provide the nutrients these heavy feeders need.

  • Harvest: Pick before the first hard frost. Ensure you leave a sturdy handle of stem on each pumpkin to improve its shelf life for autumn displays.

Why Pumpkin Patch Mixture Seeds belong in Your Garden

Why choose just one variety when you can have a whole patch of diversity? This mixture is particularly rewarding for young gardeners, as every “hill” holds a surprise—will it be a giant orange Howden or a spectral white Lumina? It’s a convenient way to maximize your garden’s output, providing both decorative gourds for the front porch and high-quality flesh for your favourite autumn recipes.
