Description

Red Kale Seeds 1703. Heirloom Vegetable.

Approximately 400 seeds per packet (400 seeds per gram)

A beautiful and resilient heirloom, Red Kale produces lots of flat, toothed, grey-green leaves with a vibrant purple-red central stem. The red colour intensifies as temperatures drop in the fall, making it a striking addition to your autumn garden. When cooked, the leaves turn a rich, dark green, and their soft, tender texture is perfect for braising or for use in fresh salads. This very winter-hardy and vitamin-rich variety arrived in Canada somewhere around 1885.

Nutritional Information

Kale is a nutritional powerhouse. It is an excellent source of Vitamins K, A, and C, and is also a good source of dietary fibre, calcium, and iron. This leafy green also contains powerful antioxidants, making it a healthy and beneficial addition to your diet.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

Sow seed directly outdoors 1 cm deep in early spring or from June to early July in rows 60 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 30 cm apart to give them plenty of room to grow. Kale is very cold tolerant and its flavour actually develops best after the fall frosts, so you can enjoy fresh kale well into autumn. Germination occurs in 7-10 days.

Why Red Kale Seeds belong in Your Garden

For a kale that is as beautiful as it is robust, Red Kale is a perfect choice. Its striking colours will add visual appeal to your garden, while its exceptional winter hardiness ensures a long and productive harvest. Whether you braise its tender leaves for a warm, comforting dish or toss them fresh in a salad, this resilient and vitamin-rich heirloom is a delicious addition to your vegetable patch.
