Quick Seed Details

  • Type: Bush Bean, Open Pollinated
  • Pod Size: 15 cm long, purple
  • Features: Unique purple pods; productive and long-bearing; tolerant of cool soil; delicious and crispy.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

This variety is an excellent choice for an early start. While most beans dislike cold, wet soil, Royal Burgundy is more tolerant. Sow seeds once the soil has warmed to at least 16°C for best results.

Planting: Sow seeds 2.5 cm deep and 8 cm apart in rows spaced 45 to 70 cm apart. To ensure a continuous harvest, make successive sowings every 10 days until mid-July.

Care: Keep the plants evenly watered, especially when they are in flower and starting to produce pods. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizer, which promotes excessive foliage. To reduce the risk of disease, avoid disturbing the plants when leaves are damp. Germination occurs in approximately 8 days.

Why Royal Burgundy Bush Bean Seeds belongs in Your Garden

The Royal Burgundy is a rewarding choice for both its unique appearance and its dependability. The vibrant purple pods are a striking addition to Your Garden and turn a beautiful bright green when cooked, providing a visual cue for perfect blanching time. Its productive and long-bearing nature ensures a steady supply of delicious, crispy beans. Best of all, its ability to thrive in cooler soil means you can enjoy an earlier harvest than with most other bean varieties.
