Shady Nook Lawn Seed Mixture 7065

Canada No. 1 Lawn Seed Mixture. Is your lawn looking patchy because of too much shade? Our Shady Nook Lawn Seed Mixture is designed to grow in those tricky spots where other seeds fail. This fast-germinating mix is perfect for areas under trees, along the side of your house, or anywhere else you’re struggling to grow thick, healthy grass due to low sunlight.

While no grass can thrive in total darkness, Shady Nook significantly expands the range where you can cultivate a beautiful lawn. It’s your secret weapon for a lush, uniform yard from corner to corner.

How to Grow a Thriving Lawn

New Lawns:

  1. Prepare the soil: Spread a 5 cm layer of topsoil. Break up any clumps and rake the area to a smooth, even surface.
  2. Sow the seed: Apply the seed at a rate of 1.5 kg per 50 m². For best results, use a spreader and apply half the seed in one direction, then the other half in a perpendicular direction (a criss-cross pattern).
  3. Cover and Roll: Lightly rake the seed into the soil so it’s barely covered. If your soil is light, you can use a roller at half capacity to gently firm the area.

Repairing Existing Lawns:

  1. Prep the area: Mow your existing grass close to the soil. Vigorously rake the area to remove clippings and thatch.
  2. Add topsoil: Fill in any low spots with new topsoil and rake smooth.
  3. Sow the seed: Apply the seed at a rate of 1.5 kg per 100 m², using a criss-cross pattern to ensure even coverage.
  4. Cover and Roll: Lightly rake the seed into the soil.

Tips for Success:

  • Planting Time: Sow in the spring once the soil warms up, or from mid-August to late September.
  • Germination: Expect germination in 10-14 days. Keep in mind that cold soil can lengthen this time.
  • Watering: Use a fine spray to keep the seedbed moist for the first two to three weeks. Once established, water deeply and infrequently to promote a strong root system.
  • Mowing: Mow your new lawn for the first time when it reaches 8 cm in height. Once established, maintain a height of 8 cm. Never remove more than one-third of the grass blade’s height during a single mowing. This helps the grass maintain its strength and prevents it from going into shock.
