Zebrina Malva (Malva sylvestris) is an old-fashioned favourite that produces an abundance of 5 cm, cup-shaped, mauve-pink flowers heavily veined with deep, velvety-purple stripes. Reaching a towering height of 150 cm, its strong, erect stems make it an exceptional choice for the back of sunny borders, cottage gardens, and pollinator plantings. While technically a tender perennial hardy to Zone 5 with winter protection, it grows so quickly from seed that it is best cultivated as a long-blooming annual across most of Canada.
