Description

Espresso Sweet Corn 1572 (‘SE/SH2’ Bi-Colour Type) 1572. Hybrid.

Approx. 100-125 seeds/pkt (6 seeds/gram)

Espresso is a bi-coloured sweet corn that combines the best qualities of both Sugary Enhanced (SE) and Supersweet (SH2) varieties. This refined Triple Sweet hybrid produces large, 22 cm cobs with 16 rows of sweet, delicious bi-coloured kernels, strong tip-fill, and a good husk cover. With excellent cool soil and early season vigour, Espresso is a perfect choice for gardeners who demand great taste and quality.

Quick Seed Details

  • Type: Triple Sweet (TS) Hybrid
  • Ear Size: 22 cm long, 16 rows
  • Features: Very refined, bi-coloured kernels; sweet, delicious flavour; excellent cool soil and early season vigour; produces two cobs per stalk.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

For a successful crop, sow seeds only when the soil has warmed to at least 18°C.

Planting: To ensure proper pollination, plant at least 3 to 4 rows. When planting in rows, space seeds 10-15 cm apart, later thinning to 20-30 cm apart. Rows should be spaced 55-75 cm apart. Alternatively, corn can be planted with 3 to 4 seeds per hill, with hills spaced 30 cm apart. Germination occurs in approximately 10 days.

Care: Work a good general vegetable fertilizer into the soil at planting, keep weeds under control, and ensure the soil is evenly watered throughout the season.

Isolation Requirements

To maintain the optimal sweetness and quality of Espresso, it is essential to isolate it from other sweet corn varieties. Supersweet (sh2) and Augmented (shA) sweet corn varieties must be isolated from Sugary (su), Sugar-Enhanced (se), and Synergistic (syn) types. If not isolated, kernels of both varieties will be starchy instead of sweet. Isolation can be achieved by planting 76 metres away or by ensuring a 14-day difference in tasseling dates.

Why Espresso Triple Sweet Corn Seeds belong in Your Garden

Espresso is everything a gardener is looking for in a premium corn variety. Its excellent early season vigour makes it a great choice for cooler climates, and its potential to produce two cobs per stalk promises a high-yielding harvest. The combination of superb taste and high quality makes this a rewarding addition to any garden.
