What you need to know to Plant & Grow Blue Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is loved for its unique colour and scent, providing an excellent addition to fresh or dried arrangements.
- Site Selection: Choose a site with full sun, or plant in a container to allow for over-wintering indoors.
- Sowing Indoors: Sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before expected last frost, 3 mm deep using a soil-less mix in separate peat pots. Seed will germinate in 10-14 days at a temperature of 21°C. Keep the growing medium moist during the germination period. Grow on under lights at a cooler temperature of 16°C, then harden off and transplant outside to the garden or containers after the danger of frost has passed.
- Upkeep: Eucalyptus can be brought indoors in early fall and grown on as a houseplant through the winter, then put back outside the following year with the return of warm weather.
Why Blue Eucalyptus Belongs in Your Garden
Blue Eucalyptus is an exceptional choice if you’re looking for an annual with stunning foliage interest rather than just flowers. The silvery-blue colour provides a gorgeous, soft contrast to green plants and bright blooms, enhancing any container or garden setting. Its persistent, refreshing menthol scent makes the leaves a long-lasting, fragrant element for bouquets and dried crafts, ensuring its beauty and aroma can be enjoyed long after the growing season ends.
