Approx. 350 seeds/pkt (645 seeds/gram)
Sky-Blue Blooms and Delicate, Finely Textured Foliage.
Blue Flax (Linum perenne) is a charming, short-lived perennial prized for its abundance of 2.5 cm wide, sky-blue flowers. These delicate blooms are held aloft on slender stems above fine, grey-green foliage, typically reaching heights of 25–60 cm. While individual plants may be short-lived, Blue Flax is a prolific self-seeder, allowing it to naturalize beautifully in sunny gardens. It is an excellent choice for rock gardens, meadow plantings, or as a soft texture in the middle of a sunny border.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow
Blue Flax performs best in medium to light, well-drained soils. It tends to root poorly in heavy clay, which can lead to winter survival issues.
-
Sow Outdoors (Recommended): This species has a delicate root system and does not transplant well; therefore, direct sowing is highly recommended.
-
Spring Sowing: Sow from mid-April through late June. Broadcast the seed and cover with a very light sifting of soil. Water regularly to encourage even germination.
-
Fall Sowing: Like many perennials, Blue Flax can be sown in late fall. This utilizes natural winter stratification to “wake up” dormant seeds for vigorous growth the following spring.
-
Establishment: While it self-seeds readily, Blue Flax has difficulty competing with aggressive weeds or thick grasses. Choose a site where it has room to establish without being crowded out.
Why Blue Flax Seeds belong in Your Garden
If you appreciate a garden with a natural, “wild” feel, Blue Flax is a perfect addition. Its airy habit and cool blue tones provide a refreshing contrast to the bold oranges and yellows of mid-summer. It is a resilient plant that, once settled in the right spot, will return year after year through its offspring, creating a permanent and graceful presence in your landscape with very little maintenance.
