Nutritional Information
Don’t let the “display” label fool you—Lumina pumpkins are just as nutritious as their orange cousins. They are packed with Vitamin A and antioxidants. Once you’re done with your display, the orange flesh is sweet and fine-grained, perfect for traditional pies, muffins, or hearty autumn soups.
What you need to know to Plant & Grow
Pumpkins are heat-loving, heavy feeders that require plenty of room for their vigorous vines to roam.
-
Sow Outdoors: Direct sow from late May through early June once the soil is warm. Plant 2.5 cm deep in “hills” spaced 2.4 m apart.
-
Sow Indoors (Optional): Start 3 weeks before the plant-out date. Because pumpkins have sensitive roots, use paper or fibre pots that can be set directly into the soil to avoid transplant shock.
-
Germination: Typically occurs in 7–10 days.
-
Thinning: Plant 4–6 seeds per hill and thin to the 3 strongest plants after germination.
-
Care: Provide Full Sun and deep, organic-rich soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Amend with plenty of compost before planting.
-
Pro Tip: To grow larger, more uniform pumpkins, allow only two fruits per plant to reach maturity.
-
Protection: Be sure to harvest and protect mature pumpkins from frost and freezing temperatures in late autumn.
