Nutritional Information
Multiplier onions are a healthy addition to your diet. They are an excellent source of Vitamin K and Vitamin C, providing a health boost with every meal. They also contain ample Vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene) and Folate.
What you need to know to Plant & Grow
- Sowing: Plant the sets in early spring in a sunny site with fertile, well-drained soil. Push the set into the soil, root end down, so the tip is just buried, about 2-4 cm deep.
- Care: For green onions, plant the sets 2-4 cm apart. For larger bulbs, plant them 10-15 cm apart. Weed diligently and keep the soil moist. Applying a high-nitrogen fertilizer as the leaves grow will promote greater size.
- Harvesting: The green tops can be snipped off and used like chives, or you can pull an entire cluster to use as a fresh green onion. If harvesting the bulbs, wait until the tops yellow and fall over.
- Germination: Since these are bulbs (sets) and not seeds, they will sprout quickly once planted in the warming soil.
