Description

Only the Lonely Flowering Tobacco Seeds 5227. Heirloom Flower. Annual.

Approximately 100 seeds per packet (27,000 seeds per gram).

A stately, old-school favourite, Only the Lonely Flowering Tobacco adds an imposing and elegant presence in any flower border. Growing up to 150 cm in height (depending on conditions), it is an ideal choice for the back of the border in sunny to partially shaded sites. Numerous trumpet-shaped flowers form clusters at the top of the plant. While white, trumpet-form blooms are the most common, some weather conditions will yield pink to crimson coloured flowers. The flowers release an intoxicating fragrance that is particularly inviting on warm summer nights. Flowering from mid-summer to the first frost, it’s perfect for extending your garden’s flowering period. An attractive plant for night pollinators such as moths.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow Only the Lonely Flowering Tobacco

This impressive heirloom requires a little attention to start indoors but is a relatively low-maintenance, high-impact plant once established.

  • Sowing Indoors: Start seed indoors in a soil-less mix six weeks before the last spring frost date. Leave seed uncovered on the surface of the growing medium as it needs light to germinate. Maintain a temperature of 21–24°C for the germination period, which takes approximately 15 days. After germination, grow the seedlings on under lights at a slightly cooler temperature of 17°C.
  • Transplanting Outdoors: Transplant the seedlings to the garden in mid to late May after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them 45 cm apart.
  • Upkeep: Taller plants may benefit from staking in windy locations to prevent them from snapping or flopping over.

Why Only the Lonely Flowering Tobacco belongs in Your Garden

If you appreciate a plant that delivers both visual drama and sensory delight, this heirloom is a must. Its vertical structure adds beautiful stature and height to your beds, while the copious, fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers will enchant you on summer evenings. Its long bloom period ensures your garden remains vibrant and fragrant right up to the first autumn frost.
