What you need to know to Plant & Grow
Mignonette resents root disturbance from transplanting and does not rehydrate well if allowed to wilt, making direct outdoor sowing and consistent moisture critical for success.
-
Direct Sowing (Recommended): Direct sow seeds outdoors from mid-May to mid-June once soil has warmed and spring frost risks have passed. Sow seeds 3 mm deep in fine, organically rich, well-draining soil in full sun.
-
Germination & Thinning: Seeds typically emerge in about 14 days. Thin young seedlings to 10–15 cm apart when they reach 8 cm in height to allow room for upright flower trusses to develop.
-
Soil & Moisture Management: Mignonette thrives best in slightly alkaline soils that are well-draining yet retain consistent moisture. Keep soil evenly moist, as wilted plants recover poorly and bloom performance will suffer.
-
Garden Placement: For maximum enjoyment of its signature fragrance, plant in garden beds or containers directly alongside patio seating, garden benches, decks, or window boxes.
